Rainmaker Hanging Bridges and Damas Island Mangroves

Area
Quepos, Puntarenas
Duration
9 h
Difficulty
Moderate

Trails, waterfalls and hanging bridges at Rainmaker, followed by a boat ride through the Damas Island mangroves, where white-faced monkeys come to visit. Lunch included.

A day to soak up the green. We pick you up at your house, hotel, condo or hostel and drive 45 minutes to 1 hour south to the edge of the Seco River. There you start hiking easy-to-follow trails with handrails and observation platforms, perfect for viewing the waterfalls and photographing the site's rich biodiversity.

Rainmaker is home to morpho butterflies, many bird species, the colorful poison dart frog and thousands of plant species. Depending on the season, you may also see reptiles and other animals coming down to the water. At the end of the walk, a pristine waterfall pool invites you in for a refreshing dip.

Further up the trail you reach the canopy bridge system: six sections totaling 250 meters, built to U.S. engineering standards and anchored to platforms on massive hardwood trees. The design keeps the impact on the forest minimal and gives you a bird's-eye view of the canopy.

Next we head to the Damas Island mangroves, where two small freshwater rivers meet in a channel lined with heliconias, gingers, ferns, palms and cecropia trees. From the boat you'll see ant and termite nests, and you may find crocodiles, birds, snakes and white-faced monkeys that come right up to play on the boat. Among the tangled mangrove roots, where salt water and fresh water mix, you'll see how species from two very different ecosystems live side by side.

We operate daily with a minimum of 2 people; traveling solo? Ask us about availability. Includes transportation, guide, waterfalls, mangrove boat ride, lunch, fruit and water.

The listed price is for groups of 2 or 3 ($180 per person). Larger groups get a better rate: $155 per person for 4 or 5 people and $140 per person for 6 or more.
