Bean-to-Bar Cacao Walk in the Rainforest

Area
Herradura, Puntarenas
Duration
3 h
Difficulty
Easy

Walk through the forest, taste fresh cacao fruit straight from the tree, take part in making chocolate and get up close with sugar cane and coffee.

We start with a short 30-minute walk to introduce you to the Central Pacific transitional forest and its plants and wildlife. Then comes the sweet part: Vista Los Sueños Adventure Park is home to the first international cacao collection on the Central Pacific coast.

You'll learn about cacao varieties, their ancestral history and their impact on the world economy, and best of all, you'll taste the raw cacao fruit, take part in the production process and sample different kinds of chocolate mixed with tropical fruit. As a bonus, you'll discover two of Costa Rica's most traditional crops, sugar cane and coffee, getting hands-on with the plants and their history. At the end, organic chocolate bars in different cacao percentages and other cacao products are available for purchase.

Tour times: 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Includes a guided tour with a bilingual guide and a chocolate and fruit tasting.
