Always be observant.
Car Rental:
Always obey traffic signs, especially speed limits.
Never leave luggage or other belongings in plain sight inside the car if it is unattended.
Keep the doors locked and windows closed while driving or when leaving it parked.
Avoid stopping when a stranger asks for a ride.
Ensure you meet legal requirements, such as having yellow triangles on the doors and a taximeter in front.
Traveling by Bus:
Plan your trip in advance, especially your transport from the hotel to the airport.
Do not trust someone who seems overly friendly; remember they may be trying to distract you while someone else robs you.
Police officers are always there to help you, and in case of an emergency, call 911 immediately.
Money:
Our official currency is the Colón. The exchange rate varies slightly from day to day.
Only use established banks or exchange booths to change your money. These transactions require your original passport.
Use ATMs located in safe and well-lit areas.
A sales tax of 13% is always included in the price of items you are purchasing.
When Acquiring Services:
Purchase services only from established providers (car rental companies, tour operators, etc.). They can offer security and support.
Be cautious of people offering services on the street; they may be scammers or provide informal services without adequate guarantees if needed.
Always request an invoice with the details of your purchase.
Swimming in Seas or Rivers:
Always ask locals about currents, waves, weather, or the presence of dangerous animals at the beach you are visiting.
Be attentive to the conditions of the seas or rivers. Murky water may indicate dangerous currents or a head of water.
Avoid swimming alone.
Remember that some rivers and beaches are inhabited by crocodiles. Avoid swimming in estuaries or at the mouth of a river you are not familiar with.
If you enjoy water sports, do so only with certified companies.
